Kalina Brew
For Kalina, creativity has always been an important part of her life. This passion initially led her to pursue a career in Interior Design. Following an interstate move and the birth of her first child, she decided to retrain as a primary teacher, relegating her creative pursuits to her spare time.
Several years ago, Kalina was given the opportunity to teach art at school, and, while guiding her students with their own creativity, she realised that art needed to become a significant part of her life once again.
Kalina’s breast cancer diagnosis in 2021, saw her work turn inward, reflecting on the emotions and experiences of facing one’s own mortality, and shifting towards more joyful pieces celebrating all that we have to be grateful for.
Kalina has participated in a variety of group exhibitions and art shows throughout Melbourne and Victoria over the past four years. Most notably, winning Best Modern 2D in the 2024 Corinella Art Show and Third place overall in the 2022 KernArt Prize. In April 2024, she was offered the opportunity by the City of Casey to hold her first solo exhibition in the Casey Art Space at Bunjil Place Library followed shortly after by her second solo exhibition at Meeniyan Art Gallery.
