 About

SECAN is the South Eastern Contemporary Art Network.

We are a dynamic group of contemporary artists who work across a diverse range of styles and mediums. Our group is made up of emerging, mid-career and professional artists living and/or working South East of Melbourne, anywhere from Warragul to Dandenong to the Mornington Peninsula.

Our Gallery and Studio space is centrally located at Akoonah Park in Berwick, offering the general public exciting monthly exhibitions and workshops by SECAN members.

Art Gallery

Secan was established in 2011 as a local group of artists who used to get together at each other's houses. Secan became incorporated in 2013 to allow for the group to apply for funding grants and accept low cost membership fees from participants. This money has been used to further establish Secan as an art society and help grow the group further. The City of Casey assisted Secan to turn what was previously the Akoonah Park pony club shed into Gate 6 Gallery + Studio.

Over the years, it has become a glorious art space that the group use to put on monthly exhibitions to showcase their work and offer affordable workshops to members and guests. If you are interested in creating art, improving your artistic skills, exploring new styles and mediums, and would like to connect with like-minded people, please feel free to join us. If you are not yet sure you would like to formally join the group, you are still welcome to drop in for a chat on a weekend or attend one of our monthly gatherings. Please see further details at the bottom of this page.

SECAN members meet monthly at Gate 6 Gallery + Studio in Berwick. Our meetings focus on the progress of individual and group activities, projects and exhibition opportunities. Members also share and discuss their work with the group that is based on the monthly challenge. This year the monthly challenge topics have been 'Beginning', 'Imagination', '15 x 15', 'Superfluous', and 'Postcard size'.
